2 nights, 3 days
Day 1
10 miles
Before starting our backpacking adventure we will shuttle our cars to the end of our trail as this is a point-to-point trip, one-way in the Northern Kettle Moraine on the Ice Age Trail. Then we will begin backpacking down the trail enjoying the forest, refilling water about 6 miles in, and then camp at a 3-sided shelter. Tents can be set up inside or out. There is a pit toilet. We can drop our packs and enjoy an optional 1 mile hike to an observation tower with views in all directions as far as the eyes can see. This is also where we can refill water for cooking and drinking.
Day 2
11 miles
We will enjoy breakfast, pack up camp and continue our adventure through the forest, through prairies, and past lakes. We will camp at a campground with running water, showers, flush toilets, a lake and beach.
Day 3
10 miles
We will enjoy breakfast, pack up camp, and continue backpacking down the Ice Age Trail and through the forest to our cars at the end. Then you are free to explore on your own and begin your drive home feeling accomplished and proud of yourself for covering all 31 miles of the Ice Age Trail in the Northern Kettle Moraine! :)
