We will meet at 11:15am EST at the Munising Falls Visitor Center. You can walk less than a mile to see the falls. Then head back to the parking lot to change clothes in a restroom with flushing toilets and running water. At 11:45 we will drive 15 minutes to Miner's Castle Point where you will have a little time to see the overlook and then hop on the shuttle at 12:30 to the trailhead start at Little Beaver Lake around 1pm.
We will hike towards Lake Superior and then along the shorelinehead and go about 6 miles to Chapel Beach. We will see Chapel Rock (photo left) and set up camp.
The night is free to eat, swim, skip rocks, and explore. There are nice, new pit toilets here. Bring your own TP. You can make dinner at camp or take it down to the beach.
We can make breakfast above the beach, overlooking the water, as the sun rises in the trees. Then we'll filer water and pack up. You will need enough water for the day, 8 miles.
In the first 2 miles there will be a lot of beautiful overlooks (photo left) down to the water below and the sun will make the cliffs light up in beauty and warmth. It can take an hour to do these 2 miles just becaues there are so many beautiful view to take in. This trail continues to follow the shoreline through the trees with more places we can pop out and look over the edge and out into Lake Superior.
At about 7 miles from our start, we'll come to Potato Patch which is where we will camp for the night. We can set up camp, put our packs down, and then hike less than a mile to Miner's Beach and Falls. This is where we can filter water, make dinner, and use a porta potty if you wish. There is also a pit toilet at camp, so bring your own TP. There is no water access at camp, so hiking down to Miner's Beach is necesarry to refill water for supper and breakfast. I like to take my mostly empty pack and just put my dinner stuff in there to take to the beach. You can swim, skip rocks, relax and enjoy a stroll on this white sand, half mile beach. It has clear, tourqouise water and is beautiful.
We will make breakfast and pack up camp at Potato Patch. We have less than a mile to Miner's Beach, a half mile walk along the beach, and then a rooty, climb up to Miner's Castle Overlook (photo left) where we parked. These 2 miles out can easily take an hour of more because of the nature of the terrain.
Then our last mile climbs back up the bluff and we have about a mile to our end at Miner's Castle Overlook.
You are free to begin your travels home. There's a local KOA where you can take a shower for a small fee if you wish.
